Stand Up Paddle boarding or SUP for short, is an emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. The sport is an ancient form of surfing, and reemerged as a way for surfing instructors to manage their large groups of students. Standing on a board gave them a higher viewpoint that increased the visibility of what was going on around them such as incoming swells.
Today, Stand Up Paddle is the fastest growing water sport on the planet and a great way to experience the beauty of the Caribbean. Its almost like walking on water and from a standing vantage point you can see fish, stingrays, turtles and tropical marine life.
Another reason for the rise in popularity of stand up paddleboarding is that unlike surfing, paddleboarding is very easy to learn. Within one hour you can become very comfortable in the water on your board. Stand up paddleboarding is very popular with women as they learn the essential techniques quicker than men because of their lower center of gravity. SUP also happens to be a great zero impact sport with a crazy calorie burn that is so much fun you won’t even notice.

Learn the absolute basics, or even advanced stand up paddling techniques by appointment only with one of our instructors at Hull Bay. Located on the North side of St Thomas, Hull is a quiet beach just to the West of the world famous Magen’s Bay! Hull bay is a family oriented community beach, never crowded, and has a bar & grill with great food. Its also a fantastic spot to go snorkeling! During the winter months your SUP lesson location could change because of high wind or surf. Just in case, the SUP truck will be loaded ready to go to alternate locations for the best possible learning conditions.
